Discovery 1 Park

What is Disvovery 1 Park

Discovery 1 Park - Where Oklahoma Oil Began! is located in Bartlesville's historic Johnstone Park and includes the area around the site of Oklahoma's first commercial oil well, the Nellie Johnstone No. 1. The park began as an official Oklahoma Centennial project and now features the only operational 19th century cable tool rig complete with "gusher" in the United States.

The historic site is open during public park hours. 30 minute guided tours for groups of 10 or more include seeing jthe cable tool rig in operation and the experience of a "blowout" that sends a plume of water over the top of the 84-foot high derrick.
To schedule a guided tour go to Discovery 1 Park or call the Bartlesville Convention and Visitor's Buireau at (918)336-8708.
